Reviews

Diamond’s music is deep and simple. Her voice is grounded. Her harmonies are beautiful and uncomplicated. The accompaniment serves the chanting without overpowering it. Listening to these chants is calming and stimulating at the same time.

The tracks Arba Imahot and Mayim Chayim call to mind the dependable ever-presence of the elements running under and through us, while the tracks Rise and Ashira call forth joy and praise-power! Batya keeps her voice steady and humble, but every once in a while she lets out a cantorial flourish that lifts the chant in perfect punctuation and invitation to rise.

Batya Diamond’s latest recording venture is a delightful mix of flavors of prayerful music. Batya’s ever melodic ear is complimented here by her Cohenet/Priestess studies. Evocative English and Hebrew phrases play with new and old imagery. Batya offers lush simple melody lines, supplemented by clean engineering and instrumental support from David Morgan.

Batya’s Hinei mah tov grabbed me from the first drum beats. Shechina Shine On would be wonderful to dance to. I can’t wait to start mastering these songs and sharing them in worship.

I listened over and over, in pure awe and consummate joy, to Infinite Wisdom. Now I must wax rhapsodic because the existence of such a fully feminist CD is so important. [Batya has] captured the themes that empower and uplift women in our lives and roles within exquisitely constructed chants backed by such spiritually rich and professional musicality. [T]his gift … must reach, inspire, and support all of our sisters and those who serve those for whom the Divine Feminine will be welcomed as balance and nectar for living. Wow.
— Rabbi Goldie Milgram Executive Director, Reclaiming Judaism
As a Jewish woman, I want to find prayers and blessings which honors all genders, are earth-honoring, and joyful.

The songs on this album include themes of empowerment, grounding, honoring the natural world, returning to Divine Source, and more. The music is full of joy and celebration. It reminds me of all the things in my life I am thankful for.

I listen to this music every day. It reminds me to thank Source, the Earth, and all the elements which sustain me. I especially like listening when I’m engaged in creative work because it speaks so directly to my heart.
